| We didn't know quite what to do about our front porch. We didn't want a massive cube of concrete squatting at the front door, which is more or less what the architect drew. The concrete contractor sketched out his ideas, nimbly incorporating just enough of our suggestions that we could later claim it was our idea.
First he and his crew framed in a side wall for the front porch, and poured that stem wall, along with the walk-ways on the back side of the house. |

| Then they carefully stripped off the forms and treated the concrete before it cured to expose the aggregate.
Next they framed in steps. Then the contractor had a special mix of sand delivered to fill the cavity beneath the stairs. |
